Camp Esperanza has a heart-felt place with America's Attik. Children with cancer are able to attend the camp for a week at no cost to them. The doctors, nurses and counselors are all volunteers who give up a week at a time to go to camp where Everyone gets to be a real kid. Each year up to 140 children are able to attend the week-long camp. They fish, climb ropes, learn arts and crafts, and play as hard and as often as their bodies allow. There is a waiting list for counselors who return year after year, donating their time. The smiles and laughter offer far more than dollars can buy!
Serving as a camp counselor, America's Attik Board Chairman, Ron Silvis stated "What a remarkable experience! It served to put much of life into perspective. Now when I have a tough day, I can look at the photos of the campers and I get a quick dose of reality." One camper lost a parent just months before camp and lost his leg three weeks before camp. While at camp, he learned to dive for the first time and when he climbed the wall with his one remaining leg, he flew down the zip line singing "I believe I can fly." This really gives a 'bad day' a whole new perspective.
Sam's Wholesale Donates $1000
to Camp Esperanza
Each year, America's Attik is involved with various large and small fundraising projects. One of our favorites is our Camp Esperanza Garage Sale. Sam's Wholesale help stretch those funds by matching them through their Community Matching Fund. Thanks so much to Sam's Wholesale for donating $1000 to Camp Esperanza.
